Check in guests and take cover

Open the scanner, check guests in with one scan, take cover as cash, comp or Tap to Pay, and close the night with a ledger that adds up.

Door staff open the scanner in the Mosh app on an iPhone. One scan checks a guest in and shows who they are: on a list, a ticket holder, a member, a VIP. Walk-ups pay cover on the same phone. When the night ends, the ledger is final and every admit has a receipt.

Requirements

  • An event for the night. Create an event →
  • Door staff invited with the Door Manager role. They get the scanner and the list and nothing else. Invite your team →
  • The Mosh app on an iPhone, for everyone who works the door. The scanner is in the app; the web dashboard doesn't scan. Get it at mosh.events/app.
  • For Tap to Pay: a verified venue with payouts connected. Cash and comp cover work with nothing connected.

A Friday night, start to finish

  1. During the week. You create Friday's event and set the cover to $10. The promoter gets a guest-list link and adds 60 names from her phone. Tickets sell from the event page. A promotion goes live: free entry before 11 for the first 100 RSVPs.
  2. Doors open. The door staff open the scanner. A guest shows the code from their text; the scan says she's on the promoter's list, checks her in, and records it. A ticket holder's QR is redeemed on the same scan.
  3. Walk-ups. Someone with no list and no ticket shows their ID. The scanner shows $10 owed, or $0 if they claimed the promotion before 11. The door takes cash, comps it with a reason, or has them tap a card.
  4. After close. Revenue shows the night: 212 admits, how many came from each list, cover by cash, comp and card, ticket sales, and which staff member took each one. Revenue & receipts →

Opening the scanner

Open the Mosh app, sign in with your phone number, and pick tonight's event. Owners and Admins see the same scanner Door Managers do. The screen shows the event, tonight's admit count, and a scan button.

What a scan shows

Point the camera at the guest's phone (the QR code from their text or ticket) or at their ID. The scanner matches the person and shows:

LineExample
Who they areMaya R. · Promoter's list or Ticket: VIP or Member: Regular or VIP
Whether they're inNot checked in or Checked in at 10:42 pm
What applies tonightFree cover (membership), Claimed: free before 11, +1 guest
What they owe$10, $5 (50% member discount) or $0 (comped by membership)

Tap Check in, or take cover first if money is owed. The admit is recorded with the time, how they were identified, and who scanned them.

Walk-ups

Someone with no list, no ticket and no membership is a walk-up. Scan their ID or enter their phone number, then take cover. They get a visitor record, so the next time they come the scanner knows them.

Finding a guest without a scan

If a phone is dead or the code won't load, search by name or phone number. The search covers every list on tonight's event, ticket holders and members at once.

Checking a guest's age

Scanning an ID reads the date of birth and shows whether the guest meets the event's age policy (21+ by default, set per event or in Settings › Door). Mosh doesn't keep the image of the ID.

Checking in a group

A member's plus-ones or a booking's guests can be checked in together under the person who brought them. The ledger links each admit to that host, so a booking for 30 shows 30 admits under the booking rather than 30 anonymous walk-ups.

Reversing a check-in

If the wrong name was tapped, reverse the check-in from that guest's row. The ledger keeps both entries, so nothing disappears.

Setting tonight's cover

Set the cover amount on the event. The default for new events lives in Settings › Door. The price can change during the night, say free before 11 and $10 after, and the ledger records the amount that applied at the moment of each admit.

Taking cover as cash, comp or Tap to Pay

After a scan, or for a walk-up, the cover screen shows what's owed and three ways to settle it:

MethodWhat happens
CashYou take the cash. The admit is recorded as cash at that amount.
CompCover is waived. You pick a reason (member, promotion, guest of the house, industry) and the admit is recorded at $0 with that reason.
Tap to PayThe guest taps their card or phone on the door phone. The charge goes through Stripe into your balance, with no card reader.

Member perks and promotions set the price before the door sees it. A member with free cover shows as comped by membership at $0 without anyone tapping Comp; a guest who claimed free before 11 and arrives at 10:50 shows $0, and at 11:10 shows $10.

Card cover gets a receipt the guest can open from their text. Cash and comp admits get a receipt in the ledger too, so a night with 180 admits shows 180 receipts: 90 cash, 40 card, 50 comped with reasons.

What Door Managers can and can't see

Door Managers see tonight's lists and the scanner. They don't see revenue totals, settings, Audience or other nights. The scanner applies the rules the dashboard set, so members, promotions, tickets and tonight's cover price all resolve at the scan without the door having to remember any of it.
